(Home) Alternator not charging but no warning

This is a linked in with my previous post for assistance regarding charging.

My alternator has 4 wires to it, White, Blue, White/Red and White/Black but what voltages should I have there.
On unplugging I am getting 12v on the White & White/Red from the alternator but no supplies feeding onto the alternator. I believe I should have 12v on at least 1 of them to excite the alternator into life.

I have checked the fuses below the centre console and all are okay but I didn't have any voltage on either side of the "Charge" fuse with the ignition on which I believe I should have, and I think this is what my alternator needs in order to start charging.

If anybody could check these I would much appreciate it.

Most alternators use the back flow from the warning bulb to excite the coils, so if the bulb blows, then you generally don't get any charge, can't say for definate if this is the case on our vehicles, but it is on alot of other vehicles out there. Regards Rob.

I understand that but my charge light does come on with the ignition and does go out when the engine is running but still no charge from the alternator. If you read my other posting then the full story is clear about where the voltages are and where I believe they should be.

Mark, from reading your other post sounds like a reg/rect. problem, think there is a post on how to test this in the archives.

I have read through the aceanswers archives and haven't found anything specific to this problem. I know that my battery is not recieving any charge from the alternator because I've checked it with my multimeter but I haven't got the charging warning light on my dashboard showing. Does this specifically point to an item such as regulator, alternator or could it still be both or either.

If mine has an external regulator how do I test it.

My model number is Q-CR21G-MEZX if it's of help.

Thank-you

Just one more thing, I have checked the charging fuse which is okay. The other thing that puzzles me into thinking not the alternator is the fact that I have no voltage at the alternator socket (car side) where as I believe I should have 12v excitation with the ignition on????

Perhaps somebody could verify this.

I do however get 12v on two of the four wires coming from the alternator, white and white/red. The other wires I have are white/black and blue.

If my alternator isn't throwing out anything then why does my charging light go out.

After charging my battery up last night the van started fine this morning. I put my dc meter across the battery terminals and revved it up a bit but the voltage remained at 12.5 which I think is a bit low, my manuals tell me 13.5v is the norm.
