(Home) Deleting the EGR valve

Does anybody know if it is possible to do away with the egr valve? I busted mine, and dont want to pay 150 bucks for it. I would assume you have to get a block plate for the head, and do something with the hoses? any input is greatly appreciated.

Yes. A simple blanking plate and a ball bearing pushed into the redundfant vacuum hose. I think that you will find information on this in Ace Answers

I'm preparing to do this while replacing the Turbo. I'm removing the pipe altogether. I've got 5mm blanking plates for each end. But it looks like I have to replace the studs at the exhaust manifold to give me more thread and replace the bolts for a shorter length - does that sound about right? Also I've located a gasket for the exhaust manifold end but not for the inlet manifold end is there a gasket for this? - I think someone mentioned using paste?

Peter, the easy fix for the exhaust end is to use a couple of big nuts as spacers...

There should be a gasket on the inlet side. I'd reuse the original with a taste of silicone/ insyant gasket for luck, and shorter bolts

David,
Would you have the part number for the inlet gasket? I must have dropped it and the local supplier can't find the part on their CD.
(I also need the Turbo water inlet gasket part number please......)
