(Home) Swap diesel engine

Hi,
I swap a Toyota 2ct w/intercooler into a Toyota Carina E. Now i have problems with the tachometer instalation. I take a signal from a sensor in the injection pump. It seems to be the signal to exit the tachometer. In the circuit i have two connections, but one is a common signal with other instruments, so i suppose i canīt connect because is un impulsive signal. I donīt know if iīve to adapt the signal. Anybody can help me.

Thanks in advance
Diego

just connect one of the wires from the injection pump to ground, the other to the tacho. If that doesn't work, try the other way round. There's only one wire going to the tacho, true, but that wire probably splits off to the air conditioning. Was the car originally diesel or gas? If it was petrol, is the ECU disconnected? the tacho signal might loop through it, depending on model.

Worst case, you might have to swap out the cluster for a diesel one...

Hi David,
The car was originally petrol and the ECU is disconnected. On the other hand, why the wire that goes to the tacho splits off to the air conditioning.

Many thanks,

the a/c will only work if the rpms are high enough- older toyotas even had a control on the a/c relay that you could adjust...

Mightn't be important. But I'd trace the wires if I were you- I think you'll find a wire from the ecu to the tacho, and you'll need to tap into it, not the original crank sensor wire.

I know that on the townace, the tacho signal goes through the glow plug relay (it's a combined glow/ EGR controller...). Disconnect it, no tacho!
