(Home) Whistle noise

Hi all
this is going to sound a bit mad, but hey who cares.

I have a 92 townace (fantastic van) i have had it about 3 mths now and about a week ago we went to Oxford for the weekend ( I live in Kent ) & the wife said she can hear a very high pitched whistle which is driving her mad (makes a change from me) I can't hear it. she thinks it is coming from somewhere in front of the driving seat area,
any ideas anyone
PS. i am getting 600 ks to a tank is this about right ?
many thanks

I don't want to offend, but is it possible that it is the turbo whistle?

If your wife doesn't get in ti very often it will be obvious to her, while you won't hear it after a while.

Everyone who gets into my Ace, asks what the whisle is.
With practice, and an auto box, you can alsmot play tunes!

And 600kms per tank is pretty good really, sounds like yours is in good tune.

Dave.

Thanks Dave, but that was my 1st thought but alas no, she thinks it is to do with wind as she can only hear it over 40 mph. i have check grills, doors and windows.

Just a thought.

Incedentally my favourite trick with new people is to gently press on the accellerator pedal and gently release it.
Do it just right and people start looking around for the source of the police siren!!!!!
It really does sound like an Aussie police car in the distance.

Very likely a crack in your exhaust manifold.

Hi Dave

This could be something really silly like the position of the Aerial. If it’s set to high it may whistle in the air flow, although how anyone could hear it in a Townace is beyond me. The Aerial on the Townace has a kink just above the mounting point so that it follows the contours of the roof, thus keeping it out of the worst of the air flow. I guess its possible that an ordinary aerial may have been fitted if the original was broken, and may be the cause.

Dave.
I strongly suspect that the 'whistling noise' you are getting is being caused by a faulty or warn door seal. I have had this fault on my '91 townace and cured it with a strip of 'draught excluding seal from a local DIY shop.
Hope this helps.
