There's a dipstick right down by the right hand side of the engine - what's this for - keyword 'Dextron'? I'm guessing auto transmission gearbox.
On the dipstick there are double notches for 'Cold' and 'Hot'. The level when cold is easily another level above the hot level - is that a problem? Let me emphasise the level measured is as far above the hot notches as the hot notches is above the cold notches.
I'm embarking on a long trip Wednesday so a quick response would be much appreciated.

Plenty of info on AceAnswers

as Ian says, but the quick answer is, the engine has to be running to check the level. Use cold or hot marks depending on engine temp.

Sorry, I thought I was sorted but what's the relation between the bottle level and the dipstick level? If they are the same why are there two indications. The bottle I'm refering to is at the front of the engine compartment in the corner - it has Dextron marked on it. Or is it for something else?

The bottle at the front you are referring too is your break fluid level. Have a nice day.

absolutely do not listen to the advice of 'bruce'. the cylindrical container you are referring to is the power steering fluid reservoir, which is why it says dexron ii on it, it uses auto trans fluid in it. the brake fluid reservoir is located at the driver's end of the dashboard. if you had put brake fluid in your power steering it would eat the seals for breakfast & cost you a fortune. hth rob.
