Here is a list of my vehicle info, I hope this will allow someone to tell me which brake parts I need.

Frame Number - CR21-0115502

Hi. I recently posted a querie regarding the Drivers side front passenger window on my '91 Townace, that has been un-ceremoniousley broken by a 'ballbearing' that was fired at it. I have now managed to obtain a complete window unit from a scrapyard. However the frame on this unit is in a poor condition, someone having tried to previousley remove it using brute force and ignorance, What i am trying to do (with little success), is split the frame, remove the glass and replace my broken window. Can this be done? I have removed the screw from the central brace and have tried just about every method to get the glass out. Does anyone out there know if i am doing this right (or as i suspect, wrongly), and if i am doing it wrongly what should i be doing? Any help will, at this stage be greatfully appreciated. Thank you.

Blue

easier to reply if you would start a new thread as per the instructions at the top of the page. As per your problem, yes I think you are going in the right direction. I'll try and hunt out a diagram from a manual to help. Be tomorrow though.

Steve

All you need is a set of front brakepads. Most factors will list pads for a Townace but the Spacecruiser pattern should be the same. To be sure, take one with you and ensure they match.

Are you saying that there are NO rear brakes?

Both,
Window
you have to remove the whole frame from the body - remove the internal beading, cut the adhesive around the entire window frame, removing any clips and then remove it. Once out the centre uprights have a screw, remove this and then the frame can be pulled apart to release the glass.
Brakes
Best take the rears with you as well as there were a few changes around 89-91. Could try using the ADL part nos from AceAnswers.

Sorry Steve, misread your post, thought we were only talking about front. Rear shoes are Toyota part number 04495-27041. See if your factors can do a cross reference. If not, again take one with you to compare the pattern.

Whilst dismantling the rear brakes on one side, I accidentally knocked the brake piston out on one side, fluid pouring out. I also noticed I had pierced the rubber cover on one side.

I will be searching this site for info, but just in case I can't find any that will help, assuming the worse and I have to replace the brake piston.

Anyone know the part number, name etc?

I am desperate, I was just giving the Townie a quick service before going away this weekend.

Desperate.....

No problem here Steve. You will not have to replace the piston, just the seal. If the existing seal looks OK, re-fit it for now and do a complete seal change at a later date. The seal kit, ie four seals which cover both rear wheels, are very cheap at £8.74 plus VAT. Your Toyota dealer will have them and the part No is T04906-30080. Don't worry too much about the rubber cover (Boot) it's only to keep the dust out and can be replaced later. I think that the seal kit includes the rubber boots (dustcovers) because I cannot see a seperate part number for them.

Ok, Great.

The only damage as far as I can see, and I will check again in the morning is, a very small nick in one boot.

So I can just refit everything, after cleaning, top up the fluid, bleed and all will be ok?

Yes but, make sure that the seal is put back the correct way round, ie, the "lip" facing inwards against the pressure of the fluid. If in any doubt, ease the opposite one out and see how it is fitted. You won't lose too much fluid, especially if you keep clear of the brake pedal.

Is there a particular sequence of order in which to blled the brakes?

Got everything I need. Ajays knew exactly what was needed, and they got it right.

Starting work now.

Won't bleed till I get an answer.

Steve..

Ok, I have now done the rear brakes. I could not do the front discs as the bolt on the drivers side refused to budge. The head of the bolt has gone soft and is crumbling, so after some careful attempts I gave up for fear of the head snapping off.

Is there any way bar drilling out the bolt to help remove this cursed bolt?
I can't fit new discs until I can remove and replace the damn bolt.

Have also bled brakes and will road test after picking up a new tyre.

This site is a brilliant aid to doing work on our townies. Long may it exist.
