(Home) What do you think the reason is that after replacement of cyl-head gasket I have opened up again an

I had the head gasket replaced and then found bad noise from the engine and was under powered I informed the garage Owner about this and he said it was nothing to worry about,That when I returned to have the head tightend he would ajusts the tappets. He did tighten the head and the engine was locked up. He then removed the head. all four pistons had deep inprints of the inlet valves on the crowns, the valves are bentand the camshaft has some high points of the cams damaged.
two tappets are fractured. "Guess" what The garage says it's not there fault. I am not going to attemp to put any words into anyones mouth, so I will ask all to give honest response, and ask what do you think the cause of this is. H&B Garage, North Road, Dumaguete, Negros Oriental. Philippines is owned by,"wait for it" The Reverend Honest Robin Bull**** Hewing. (British)
who is the pastor of , Open Door Ministries, 74 North Rd Dumaguete. He comes from Torquey England.
Anyone by chance know anything about him?
I can send pictures of the damage if you e mail me.
Regards Andrew

It's their fault. If they skimmed the head so far that the valves are too proud, it's their fault. If they timed the cam incorrectly, it's their fault. If they left the belt slack and it jumped, it's their fault.
If they put too thin a gasket in (unlikely, they're not sized like that in this application) it's their fault.

One of their suggestions was "we'll fit two gaskets". Jeez. not the professional way of doing things...

Andrew.
You have obviously been "stitched up" by some religous cretin, masquerading as a "Motor Engineer". Of COURSE it is the garage's fault. The cause? Lack of knowledge of this particular engine and, probably, lack of knowledge of engines in general. Obviously, one or more of the basic mistakes which David mentions, has been applied to your engine re-build. Fortunately, I have reached my advanced years quite untroubled by "religion" and, I have a healthy dislike of "rip off" garages and, also, untrustworthy Vicars but, when you get the two together, ruining their customers property, and then having the gall to say that it's not their fault, the situation must be odious in the extreme. Do this "Open Door" sect have humility in their creed by any chance? You say that this particular cleric comes from Torquay.
Basil Fawlty came from Torquay and your Mr Hewing is trying to do for the Motor trade in the Philippines what Basil Fawlty did for the hotel industry. Take all the legal steps you can to get the engine repaired/replaced, by a genuine Motor Engineer, with the bill being settled by H&B "Garages"
PS Have a look at the head. There should be a milled indent, between the valves, showing the maximum skim which the head can take. If it's not there, the head has been ruined and valve/piston contact is very likely. Two gaskets? Don't accept it. It will only lead to more trouble.

Ah-ha.
John's hit the nail on the head. Those pictures you sent me Andrew, there's no depression between the valves...
Dunno how I missed it. You get the prize this time, Mr. Davis...

BTW John, I sent you a couple of examples to peruse...

"BTW John, I sent you a couple of examples to peruse"

David, I am mortified. I am often on my "high horse" about the bad manners, and lack of acknowledgements by email. I have checked and double checked but, I have not had an email from you. Could you check please but, though I am almost sure that, in my amateurish way over PC's, I have not deleted an unread message, especially one with your illustrious name on it, apologies in advance if the fault lies here
