(Home) Message for j.adgo-clunking noise follow up

Hi Jim, finally got round to replacing my 'doughnut' bushes, as advised by yourself. Don't know how tight the large 27mm nuts were on yours, but I had to have someone assist me to get mine to 'crack', so I could then do the job myself.
To cut a long story short, the noise has all but gone now, strangely, heavy to really heavy braking - no noise at all, very light braking & I'm talking pressing the brake at walking speed, the noise is still there, but not nearly as bad as before.
My old bushes had shrunk about 5mm each, so creating a wear gap of 10mm each side. When you fitted yours, did you just fit them straight on & tighten as much as you could, as I have, or is there some way of setting them up, seem to remember you mentioning something about the castor in a past posting.
Could you please advise, many thanks,
regards, Tony.

hiya toni, sorry for the massive delay in replying. you need a castor figure of 2 and one half degrees (positive) +/- 45 minutes .that basically means the leg leans towards the front. the 27mm nuts need a torque figure of 89ft/ pounds or 121nm . Now to confuse you! - ready? - you can measure the rear facing side of the 27mm nut nearest the front of the vehicle and see if its about 332mm from the nearest bolt on the part of the strut bar that bolts it to the hub - if its more than 3 threads out to get the 2 and a half degree castor its been bent !
best to take it to a 4 wheel alignment garage , costs about 30 qiud to get set up , buts its worth it in tyres . the camber should be minus 5 degrees plus/ minus 45 minutes . and the KPI (king pin inclination) should be 10 degrees +/- 30 minutes or 10 and 9 sixteenths if they r old school .
yours jim
