(Home) Overheating survived

Dear fellow owners,
Just took the e reg townace (2c-t auto,2WD)down to auiges-mortes in the south of france for a family holiday,a perfect trip with perfect weather, but i did experience the following overheating problem on the way down.We drove through the night to dover and for our first leg of the journey through france at a speed of about 70mph and terrance performed great considering he was carrying 4 adult sized people 2 kid sized kids and an estimated 2 cwt of luggage. but as soon as the sun came up the temp needle crept up until i had to stop for a cool down .I checked the radiator and expantion tank and both seemed to be full of coolant so we carried on only to experience the same problem approx 100km further on,so i pulled up promply but this time left the engine running while i investigated. Again the radiator and tank seemed full but when i switched the engine off before the temp needle reached red ,coolant came out of the expantion tank overflow pipe in a steady stream. As we were close to our destination i proceeded carefully, nursing the temp needle until we parked. The next day, armed with antfreeze and magnatec (a damnsight cheaper in france),i drained the cooling system and refilled it and changed the oil and terrance has been good as gold since, even on the daylight 18 hour trip back,so any ideas what caused the problem?,as a footnote the "howl"of the radiator fan seems louder now and no matter what the temp needle has not risen higher than less than half up the scale
Regards Laurence

Laurence,
You should have started a new thread with your question.
I hope you just had a weak antifreeze mixture or an air lock that found it's way out to the cylinder head. The additional heat with the heavy load and higher air temp may have been enough to boil up.
Perhaps the fan was causing the problem as it's now louder?
Keep an eye out for puddles under the car, check the levels and fingers crossed, I hope all is well with the head.

greetings all, congrats on a superb site.I,m an expat. living in Cebu ,Philippines and driving a lite-ace pickup which I,e converted to lhd etc.As I have bone necrosis of my hip I drive an automatic and managed to find a 2c turbo with auto and away we go well not really. The motor is 92 vintage the body is 93 and there's a lot of wiring missing from the right hand side of the motor-stuff like warning lights, gauges, preheat etc.Currently running with bits of wire twisted together.Would love any info re such.
Thanks James
