(Home) Rear fog lights within tailgate

Sorry for the late post, I've been away. For clarification on the dog name Clive - the Bernese Mountain Dog originates from the farm dog used to pull cheese carts, found in the hills of Switzerland around Bern. Bermese is a breed of cat. A common mistake made by many but in your case I'm sure it was just a typo. Nice description of the event even if a little overgenerous in places. You missed Barry from the list. He gave me a useful tip about wiring the rear fogs into the tailgate light cluster. Something I may do and catalogue if I ever find the time one day. I also have a few pics from the Jam if anyone is interested.

Interesting that you are thinking of using two of your four brake lights as fog lights Ian. Ask yourself, how often do you use your rear fogs, once, maybe twice a winter. Now how often do you use the brake lights. With all the twats on the road, I'd rather have the four brake lights. Indeed when we got our Townie the inporters had put the switch to the tailgate brake lights, first job I did was to put these back to brake lights, add a high level LED brake light to the top of the tailgate & put a small surface mounted fog lamp unit immediately under the driver's side lamp cluster on the piece of metal between the cluster & the bumper. Easy to fit, looks like it should be there, looks much neater than the big ones mounted under the rear bumper & gets the car through the MOT, which incidentally is the only time it's ever been turned on.

Here in Bristol we often have morning mist/fog during the colder months. I had the tailgate brake lights converted to the rear fog lights. The wing lights along with a high level LED brake light are brighter than the reversing lights. I reasoned that the lights were higher than a saloon car and therefore more visable, converting the tailgate ones gave two lights which I prefer in poor driving conditions.
Should this have not been under a new thread?
I've emailed Barry and asked Mark to include some words. Sorry I missed you off Barry.

Yes the high level light sounds a good option but if I recall I think Barry was talking about using the vacant reflectors. I too like my four brake lights and wouldn't be prepared to give two of them up.

One point about rear fogs, they as far as I remember are better lower down than higher up, as fig settles it is thinner near the ground, and so would be easier to spot the fog lights. I whole heartedly agree about high brake lights, I also when I got the lite-ace fitted a led rear brake light at the top of the tailgate, in the window, would not have it any other way, the further the brake lights are away frm side lights & indicators the better, people will be attracted away from a steady light towards a brighter indiependant sourtce of light, ie the high level brake light.

I am looking for a way to modify the cooling system of a 1987 model toyota townace from a flex cooling fan to an electric one. Any ideas?

Yes Dan

Start a new thread so as to gain better visibility and check out AceAnswers, a number of Townace owners have gone electric and shraed their experiences.
