(Home) Owners sad goodbye

yesterday was a sad day as my beloved van went off to be sold.try as i might to covince the wife to keep it as we needed a big car,but she was right(as usual)with only 2 small kids and a dog left to drive about,as the others have grown up and doin there own thing.i realy feel as if some things missing,im drivin around in a escort now,god how low to the ground do these cars need to be,i cant see a thing going along, and changing gear and clutches and all the nonsence of moving off, give me automatic any day.i would like to say that this site is superb,as are the townies and drivers who really use this site.good luck to all of you and many happy years of driving to everyone.
ps if you live near bristol and looking for a tidy van, mines at jones garage on hartcliffe way.a good car, never had no problems in the 3 years ive had it,never let us down at all.cheers

Dave,
The truth is these vans have such character ( strange how many refer to them as vans and not people carriers or MPV's )that they become part of family life each child claims there own seat and every owner has his ( or her ) own special things that they treasure about it ( or need to constantly watch). I've been offered numerous alternative vehicles from a friend in the motor trade. ( "I've got a great car that would suit you down to the ground " ) but my reply always is " I've already got a great car "
So Yea! I can appreciate your loss.

I only have one little un - but like the bus (hiace)for the simple reason (amonst others)that once we have been to whatever we can jump in the back with the seats facing and relax etc. before the journey back.
I have always deliberately picked vehicles that attract no attention - dont ask me why but in the 3 and a bit months I have had it I have been stopped twice. Once on a side street and another time belting up a dual carriageway. - Why? The people who stopped me wanted to buy it!
But regarding the escort? Nothing wrong with 'horses for courses'- expect something else will replace it at some stage

Hi - I know how you feel. I had a spacecruiser for 13 years and cried when it got killed by rust, but I had to go and get something similar so I got a Townie. Can't you use some of the excuses I have in orde to keep it, eg
2 of my 5 kids have left home, but I find myself moving house using the "van" for them, carrying cookers, TVs, washing machines and even 3-piece suits, also my disabled dad loves to get into a higher car for comfort, also you can't sleep in an escort, and it doesn't cost anymore (except for road fund tax), also you have to help your kids with shopping and their babies. I will never get rid of mine, unless a write-off, or rust, but then I will go for the next similar best thing. You can also spot it better in Tesco's car park! Also, I find that car park attendants know who drove it in, so less chance of getting stolen. Perhaps your wife will change her mind now. - Jo
