(Home) Suspension damper part number cross reference

When I got my hiace I was supplied with a pair of rear dampers by the garage
The toyota supplier wont take them back despite them supplying possibly the wrong ones - anyway I've had them in the wrappers a few months now
Toyota say they cannot identify which vehicle the dampers are off - their computor just saying import - though they confirm I require T48531-80142
(A 97' CD shows 48530 R/H and 48540 L/H for most/all hiace imports)

Part numbers as follows I have as follows;

48531-80532 on the packaging
48531-26331 on the dampers

Assume this is due to updating of part numbers
Can anyone tell me which vehicle these were designed to fit?

At a glance they look the same size as mine but I can't remove the old ones without squashing them

well, they're certainly not used on anything on the B1jap cd. (part numbers application to models)

Best go to a GOOD dealer and get them to cross- refer...

Also, clean your own dampers, there might be a p/no stamped at the bottom.

Chris,
You do have fun with your Ace.

48531-80432 is listed as a rear LH and RH shocker for a Hiace, from the Toyota Euro parts CD. perhaps someone did a typo?

Can't find 80532, perhaps it's and uprated commercial one for the vans? Can't find 80142?

Take Dave's advice and go to a different Toyota dealer.

Thanks for looking
The part number cross ref function on my cd either doe'nt work or I am not using it properly hence the queery
Tried 2 toyota dealers already with the same response but will try another and also see if a motor factor can cross ref.
David, thanks for pointing out the obvious - I'll check the dampers on the van for numbers later(why did'nt I think of that!)
Clive, I do have some fun with it - but as you guessed not enough of the right sort of fun - it'll all be sorted one day though!
Was thinking of taking an old one off (when I work out a way to do it without squashing the upper sleeve) and doing a comparison with the new ones I have
Don't understand why they list different dampers for the nearside and offside of the vehicle though
Thanks again for checking - I'll continue with the puzzle!

I believe that on TEMS dampers, the valves are handed. Also remember that the PNC for dampers applies also to McPherson struts, which are definitely handed.

Chris, re. part no. searching, type in the number, press enter, then F10 to do the search.

There's no hiding my ignorance! Thanks David.
Yes, the 'enter button' does the trick
However when I try cross ref for oil filter 15601 (PNC? as on disc)I get nowhere as not 10 or 12 digits.Seems I am missing the full part number - what do I press to get it?
Cleaned the dampers on the van and the offside rear one shows 48531-26330 -
CD says not applicable to the damper numbers
The plot thickens!

right. When you have a picture up in the "translation" screen, the listing you see is only of PNCs. You must click on the part required then execute it to get the full number inc. information about model variants.

The fact that your dampers aren't listed might just mean that they were superceded before that version of the cd. Dunno. Maybe no original?

Thanks David
You bailed me out again - part numbers now appear.
Used a pulley wrench (and 2 long arms)to hold the damper still while I took off the original
The old and new appear the same but on compression the old ones clearly have more resistance so were put back on. The old ones did make - how do I put it? - farty noises though when decompressing - unsure what this indicates but I will probably order some new ones later in the year
Thanks again
Chris
