(Home) Aircon overhaul

air con has finally died and have decided to overhaul system. i have been reading postings and problems on the subject and the overall feeling seems to be that i have to change the seals and o'rings in the system if i top up with 134a (at the momement it has r12)how many seal & o'rings are there, also notice that rob has said he can supply filter driers for £45 approx on another posting.would you supply to me or trade only. have been told there are two filters? any ideas where they are? also if driers are broken up and blocked pipework can they be flushed if stripped out or must they be renewed. many thanks for any replies martin

Hi Martin
For the a/c to be overhauled requires a great deal of care and a good basic working knowledge of refrigeraton systems. Firstly i would try to determine what has actually caused the system failure as this will determine the level of expenditure, i.e if the compressor has failed then an overhaul of your bank balance is likely, but if you have a pipe leaking gas the outcome is much cheaper. There are drop in replacement gases such as r406a.
Driers usually have a strainer built into the outlet side of the casing so i would be very surprised if blockage is occuring, it's more likely that the core of the drier is contaminated with water.
If you are in doubt get a professional to check it as DIY projects can turn into a real nightmare at twice the expense

well done martin, before you let him charge the system make sure he puts a vac pump on the system to ensure a leak free repair and removes all air in the system.
