I will be gettin a hiace 2.4td auto super custom form japan in august and want to fit a mechanical speedo convertor the type that fits between the gearbox and cable, will this have any effect on the auto box (gear change),

depends on year- later ones may have an electronic speedo and or tranny...

Mine had an in line gearing reducer fitted to the cable where it enters the box
As it only affects the speedo cable drive ratio it should not alter gearchanges - the 1990 model should have a traditional clock type speedo
