(Home) Oil leak- new sump

My 1990 Master Ace Surf 2ct has had a really bad oil leak. One mechanic said the sump was corroded, cut the piece out and rewelded a new part. The leak is definetly less but I still have to refill the oil once a month. My new mechanic said the first guy should have replaced the sump all together (is this right?), he also said I need to find a new sump for him to replace to fix the oil leak. Though, Im having a hard time finding one, and it seems like everyone is saying I cant just buy one. I've called the main sites for parts listed on Ace Answers. Does anybody else have some helpful advice on perhaps the problem or where I can get a new sump, and what is a fair price for one?
Thanks a lot for all your help, you guys have saved me alot of money already through this site, blessing on you.

Drew. It's a bit strange that there should be corrosion on the sump and I should have thought that the cause could have been a blow and the dented/fractured metal then corroded. Was the sump taken off, welded, and then re-fitted with new seals etc and, was it thoroughly checked for any distortion? I agree with the thoughts of your new mechanic re the procedure here. If a patch was welded, with the sump drained but in situ, damage to the seals etc would, I should think, quickly follow, and any distortion could not easily be checked.
I have a ruined 2C-T engine (piston & bore damage) which I am dismantling for spares, though I have renovated the head as a spare for possible future use on my Masterace.
You are welcome to the sump off this engine. It is still in situ but would not take me long to inspect and remove it. Email me if this would be of any help

Hi there John I was just wondering if you got my email I sent to you regarding the sump. I sent it to you and myself but my email account never received it.

Yes thanks Drew and I have replied. Perhaps you will confirm my message, sent minutes ago at 5.30, has arrived.
