(Home) Master ace no heat (Sp+)

Hello not sure if any one can help i have just bought a G reg masterace surf 2.0 turbo diesel automatic and for the life of me i cannot get the heater to blow hot . I know its summer but if i sort it now i wont freeze in winter . The air con seems to work but not that cold all the controlls move freely and the temp gauge works so there is a thermostat in it but still i only get cold air . I have tried with air con on and in the hot position but still no hot air . Also my ignition gave up the ghost will one from a british spec space cruiser fit as i know of one in a breakers yard. And will taking off the air con belt all together give me any better mpg they like there fuel and trying to drive without the turbo comming in is no that easy in one of these . Many thanks Carl

Re
No heat - my hiace was like this when purchased - not enough coolant in the system - check there is a pick up pipe under the expansion bottle cap to draw coolant back into the system - check coolant level at pressure cap also - maybe an airlock - also check the heater control cable is attatched to and operating the heater control valve (in-line to the heater)
Read Ace Answers for more cooling info
Air con - Yes it does brake the engine somewhat (but only when on) - I must confess to using it on down hill slopes mostly - unless its really hot - having said that over a year its not going to make a lot of difference to your annual fuel bill
Someone more informed may like to comment on the turbo

Turbo
There appears to be an “urban myth” that turbocharged engines use obscene amounts of fuel.

When measured at a constant speed, manufacturers state very similar MPG between turbocharged and normally aspirated engines. Under acceleration however, the turbocharger increases boost to the engine so that the desired speed is reached quicker, which will allow the throttle to be reduced much sooner. This reduces the fuel used for most of the time, so the turbo actually improves MPG.

Hope that helps
