Further to Matt Moore's overheating problem.
I had that exact problem with my Space Cruiser.
I had a damaged head gasket, which was pressurising the water jacket, gradually forcing the water out into the Expansion tank.
Once the water level dropped below the pump, it just sat there and boiled, and things got a bit hairy.
It turned out that the gasket had been put on damaged.
It's worth checking new ones carefuly
