(Home) Wiring diagram/ help

I was always told "neither a borrower nor a lender be" so I have a contribution to the wiring diagram, and a question too:-

I recently put a new stereo into my 1990 Townace Super Extra 2.0 diesel. I had to do it the hard way to find the connections, which are
Gray/brown- ignition feed, White/gray stripe on brown- perm. live feed, green/brown- earth. DON'T connect the brown/blue- it is the lighting feed, and WILL short out the rear lights. The speakers (sorry don't recall the order and her indoors didn't note it) are
Gray/blue+gray, Pink/brown+Green/brown, Dk Gray+DkGray/red, and Blue/brown+Mauve/brown. Hope this helps!

Now on to my problem... I get an occasional click from somewhere behind the glovebox, instead of the engine turning over. When it happens, I turn off the stereo, turn off the blower, and usually it starts on the next turn of the key (although it has been known to take 5 minutes to catch the starter motor) Any clues? Is there a sticky relay to the starter behind the glovebox? Should I panic?

Be grateful for your thoughts guys,

Andy, Grays, Essex

It's the well known and documented starter contacts issue. The click you're hearing happens all the time- it's the fan being turned off to unload the battery.

First step is to strip and service the starter- fit new contacts (search in Ace Answers for info)

That should do it for a while but if not...

You'll find that in the no- start condition if you crawl under and flash the short solenoid wire to the live it'll start OK

Then your choice is to run a wire from the starter solenoid terminal up to the engine bay to flash against live on the glowplug relay/ run another wire to the ign. switch/ have a relay fitted near the starter to remove the voltage drop...
