hi all. i have a masterace surf 2wd 2.0 td
it has been smokey since i got it but its now getting worse.i have tried injection cleaner etc and adjusted the allen key adjustment on top of the pump [very slightly] till it was at its best smoke/power.lately it has started to gurgle back to the expansion bottle [cooling system] even from cold.she starts and runs perfectly and does around 27-30 mpg,but is extremly smokey at mid to high revs.any help greatly appreciated

ok terry you can try these
change the air cleaner
unscrew the injectors (treat em with care they have delicate nozzles) and get the spray pattern tested at your local lucas or bosche service centre - usually free - you might find you have a dribbler!
is it black smoke? - thats unburnt derv
blue is engine oil
white is water (steam actually)
if the injectors are fine you might as well get the pump set up - which they can do in situ using a chop test - probe up the exhaust
the pump is a jap copy of a bosche - if u need the figures its in the engine manual rm025
and finally if you dont mind getting your hands really cut , see if the egr valve (autos only) is stuck open - it goes between the exhaust manifold and the inlet manifold - the valve being near the number 4 injector area - dont be too upset to see a lot of accumulated soot snd gunge around this valve and its associated piping

easy one that. air in system + duff rad cap, or blown head gasket...
