I am still drooling at the Townace for sale ads...sadly my insurers AXADirect say they don't insure imports!!...Having recently paid my full years premium, and should I buy a Townie soon,I fear the thought of having to move insurance company and then pay another full years premium!
Why, when asked for a quote, they always want the registration details of the vehicle to be quoted for!!...if the Townie you fancy is situated at the other end of the country, how are you supposed to know all the details? ...I have contacted some Townie for sale owners, but they are reluctant to give me any details regarding registration etc!

Am I doing something wrong?
Any helpful hints welcome.

Think the operators are only asking what their computer tells them too - and some operators will be more experienced and flexible than others.
I have asked for a 'rough estimate' when I have'nt got the reg. - being persistant (refusing to believe that the reg is necessary for a ball park figure) will get you the rough price - assuming you are not high risk in insurance terms it won't be far out of figures quoted in other threads.
Go for it and be damned! Try Liverpool Victoria - I found them helpful and no fuss (and cheap for fully comp)

Thanks Chris......you're right, people are too easily put off by the voice at the other end.

Insurance companies ask for the vehicles registration for theft checks. If the vehicle is registered stolen or its been clonned or if its got false registration it will come up on the insurance companies computor. If you can, shop around because insurance quotes can vary a lot. When I first bought my Townie, a 1989 2.0 EFI Royal Lounge I got it insured with Bell Direct at a cost of £998.00 third party fire and theft. I then came accross this sight a couple of months latter and found that I could get insurance cheaper else where. I am now with Tesco who have insured me for £396.00 third party fire and theft. A big saving.

Have just bought a Townace which had just been imported from Japan and didn't have the docs back from DVLA.
LIFESURE (tel 01480 474604) set up the insurance over the phone using the chassis no' so I could collect it today, and I just have to tell them the reg. no. now it's come through. They were really helpful, and not too pricy at £377.43, fully comp for me & partner (he has 3 points for speeding!),incl legal cover & protected no claims!
