Greetings from Moscow, Russia
I have no problem at all driving my towmie in the Russian winter. It handles fine on icy roads. I engage the 4X4 only if I get stuck.

There is a lot of weight over the front wheels so any error is exposed. The back will swing round if you allow it, go slow and you will be alright. Having had a few spinning slides, sitting right at the front can give cause to clean underwear! Try a few sharp turns in the wet (somewhere safe), you'll get an idea. Going up hills is another thing, some times it just won't make it, If you have a steep icy hill to climb, may be as well to find another route.
No problem on fresh and compacted snow.
