(Home) Idle up

recently had new head fitted and then turbo but now the idle up doesnt work, is it in any way dependant on the pump settings etc or is it likely to be an electrical problem, is there a fuse/ relay ?

Vacuum pipe not connected. There's a pic on AceAnswers if you need a reference.

Maybe your tickover settings where too low before. I found mine never seemed to work. Then by pure chance I had the air-con, cool box and just about everything else one day (pratting about showing off to a friend as you do) with all this strain the tickover dropped, hit the idle -up and bingo, it worked. After several experiments it appears that (on mine at least) the idle-up switch only works when it's actually needed.

The Idle up button only works when the Air Con is OFF, and the fan blower switched ON.

It's purpose is to increase power from the alternator if sat in traffic etc. to drive the blower more efficiently.

Switching the Air Con ON while the blower is on, also operates the idle up automatically.

Tickover should be 750 - 850 rpm. You can adjust the tickover by slightly turning the adjustment screw that sits behind the fuel pump.

turn the heater fan on...

Seriously tho, if the engine's cold, it won't have much effect, and the circuit is simple- feed comes from the fan switch to the idle- up switch, then on to it's solenoid. Vacuum feed through solenoid to actuator, that's it!
