some noise can be normal as the pump wears (there's a lot of moving parts in there), but unless it's about to fail catastrophically, it'll probably go on for another 100K miles...
Could be anything. Camplate, feedpump, advance mech (honest!), delivery valves, main shaft bushes...

Sure it's the pump tho? valve clearances OK?

Don't know if this helps or not but I had a noise prob on my hiace
Try holding each metal injector pipe in turn - I had a strong vibration on #1 pipe, and a sound like a crate of milk bottles when driving lightly - changed fuel filter and added a 'wynns deisel clean up' treatment. As the rubber fuel pipes seemed a bit loose added small cable ties (temporary) to provide a double seal (worries over it drawing air into the line)- this stopped the noise and reduced the vibration

are you sure its diesel pump and not dry aux belts while its running try pouring a drop of water into the belts and see if noise changes i have been out to several of these with all sorts of description of noises and found all it wanted was new aux belts

good luck bob
