(Home) Estima emina low oil level light

Can anyone shed any light on a problem we are having with our Estima Emina 2.2TD 4WD (1994).

The low oil light comes on intermittently. If I switch off the engine for 5 mins it is OK when I start it again but then it comes back on again etc. Has anyone else experienced this problem and do you have any ideas on how to correct it.

Have you changed your oil recently? I get spurious results with mine when it's about ready for a change. Alternatively you may have a dodgy sender.

My experience is
it comes on when the level drops to about halfway from "L" to "F", I first see it briefly after starting a warm engine, and it seems to have a memory - it doesn't flash on/off as you go around corners etc, just gloomily appears then fades a few minutes later. I just add a cupful of oil. Until recently I had slight oil leakage from the filler cap seal and the rockerbox breather pipe connection, but now they're fixed I estimate that I'll get the 5,000km from one oil change to then next without seeing the light.

That's wierd. I'm having exactly that trouble with my Emina that a bought a month ago (1996 N reg)!
It's alright when going around town, but when running down the motorway the light starts flashing on and off.
I reckon that it's due for an oil change as the present stuff looks a bit black. Does anyone know if it would benefit from a flush as well?

If it's a diesel the oil will be black.
A flush and a change with a good quality oil will do the engine a power of good.
