(Home) Engine

I have recently bought a 1993 Townace 2.2 diesel Turbo. The power for a 2.2 is pretty poor even when I am in it on my own. Is there anything I can do to improve the performance, filters, injectors etc, anything! Also, does running the aircom really reduce fuel consumption so much.

Could try a full service to begin with - oil, air, fuel filter etc. Try 'Wynns deisel clean up' added into your new fuel filter to help clean the injectors.
Remember your vehicle may weigh more than a car with the same engine - hence weight will affect performance.
Disconnecting the EGR (see archives) may help bottom end power a little. Also some people advocate replacing the viscous fan with electric (see archives)
The air con does sap some power (hence mpg) - try driving it steadily on a straight flat road at low revs - then turn the air con on - you may note your revs drop as the engine takes the extra load

do a full service - the filters do make a difference.

Get the injectors serviced or replaced if you like, get the fuel injection pump serviced if you want - these are things that you will not regret, if you can afford them - but remember that it is a van - if you want a racer, you don't buy one of these.
We have these for thier other attributes - many seats in great comfort, good fuel consumption (for this class of vehicle), and in my case 4X4.

I don't know if it is just that I am not fussed, but I have never found the power a problem - you don't win many drag races, but I don't hold up much traffic.

It is possible that 'The Screw' has been over-adjusted on yours (see the AceAnswers under 'fuel system' I think).
If you want to do something major, then look at an aftermarket exhaust of about 2" to 2 1/4" - I am assured that it will help although I don't have the money right now.

But keep in mind that it will never be a rocket - unless you want to put in a bigger motor! - and then it won't handle well enough for the power.

Regular maintenance will keep it at it's best performance, but that is a relative term.

Dave.

can someone tell me the the maximum governor cut out speed of a toyota 3ct, also its torque and bhp. thanks

3ct? I'll guess it's got the same (or slightly lower) governor setting as the 2ct. 2c is 5400, 2ct is 5200, so for the longer- stroke 3ct, I don't think I'd want it over 5k...
Torque and BHP you'll have to search for, but be aware that different markets have different outputs, and that some applications may be electronically injected and or intercooled. I'd guess around 90-95hp tho...
