(Home) Insurance, LV

Townies and Insurance. I sell Townaces and like this site I have been recommending Liverpool Victoria (Frizzel). However several of my customers have come back to me complaining of problems getting insured with this company. I also note the present
and past comments on this site regarding the same. After several ignored e-mails I have spoke to LV regarding these problems and what follows is a summary of their answer. If you are a new customer with an auto Townie, LV will not insure you. In fact their data base does not show any auto Townies.
This can be confirmed by filling in the Quick Quote on their web site. When it comes to selecting make and model it only shows manual Townaces. I am told that those of us (including myself) who own auto Townies and are currently insured with them are a mistake. I’m told who ever took your details has assumed your
Townie is manual. I have checked my policy and cannot find a reference to the type of transmission. The lady I spoke to is adamant LV will not insure auto Townies and should not have insured them in the past. So if you want insurance scan previous postings on this site
and try some of the other companies people have recommended.

I too have just renewed with LV - £310, tax paid, fully comp, Cheshire, me and the wife only drivers. The insurance schedule just says TOYOTA Townace TDI (Import) and then quotes the registration nymber L *** LNC.

I started by asking "do you cover imported MPVs" and took it from there - nothing could have been simpler. No immobiliser or other gadgets required ...

Mmmmm...Don't like the sound on the first post! I phoned LV on the freephone number and was told they only listed a manual. A few days later when I had actually bought my Townie (G reg) I phoned LV on the other number (shown in posts on this site)and there was no problem; they seemed to know exactly what vehicle I was talking about and knew it was an import. £207 fully comp, protected, business use etc etc. I couldn't believe it.

Is there a catch?? Does anyone know of anyone insured with LV who has had a problem on a claim?

I'm insured with Frizzel(CSMA), who I believe are the same company as LV and they insure my auto diesel townie with no problems, they are well aware it's an auto. I'm 90% certain it says "auto" on the policy but I'll check tonight.

dont think i tried LV but found it near impossible to find an insurance company who will insure imported vehicles over 10 years old in fact i only 1 and that was farmers union wales (FUW) they are apart of allianz cornhill.
I drive a 92 liteace turbo diesel auto, I am 31 with 75% NCD I am paying £276.97 fully comp I assume this is good.

have got mine with tesco, no probs but needed immobilizer...

- (#11266) neil rolfe, 18 Oct 03 7:10

LV would not insure my 1990 auto, Tesco insured it but will not cover theft as it has no immobiliser. A Thatcham 2 is £132.00 including vat from National Windscreens. Cost of insurance with Tesco was £262 for me and my wife with 4 years no claims. I have a high risk job and some insurers would not take me. Only problem with Tesco is they tend to hike the second year through the roof and are quite aggresive in pursiung you if you do not renew with them without telling them

I phoned LV this week and they refused to insure my townie...1990 auto, 2l engine...said that they did once insure them but have changed their policy in imported vehicles and now don't insure them unless they have an exact match on their system

As I have said in the post my ins with l/v was £197
me 52 wife 49 72.5% ncd.
On Sunday 7 September I had an accident front end.
By Sat 13 Sept the townace r/l 1990 was declared a total lost, uneconomic repair.
We went away on 2 weeks holiday from 22 sept home 6 oct.
Value of townie was agreed at £3500.
Bought back for salvage for £500 + £100 excess.
Cheque came for £2900 on the 11 Oct.
Had bumper dent, fog light unit smashed, headlight knocked back in, and dent in bonnet about 6" long in by about 2". Have replaced fog unit from parts finder £65 inc p&p. BBC wanted £80 + p&p.
Bumper dent pushed back to good as new.
All the brackets straightened out. Thats all its cost at the moment but I will get the dent sorted and front panel resprayed.
