(Home) Mot failure

Hi, i have a 2.0l 2wheel drive 1990 townace. It's failed on near side lower front swivel joint and the hand brake doesn't give enough pressure. I've checked the rear brakes and everything seems to be working ok. There is acouple of mil still on the shoes, can anyone give me advise on parts and how to replase them. Ed from Basildon Essex. I'm not great with computors so can you tell me what optional link url, link title and optional image url mean?

replace the handbrake cables.

the bit's you're talking about while posting a message are to allow hotlinking- making a bit of text clickable so others can go directly to another site, or adding a picture into your posting

Eddie, as Dave suggests replace handbrake cables. Easy enough to thread them through with the bus on it's wheels. The lower ball joint may require the whole hub to be removed to get it off. It's a taper fit and may need a little help in coming out!

1983 A Reg Spacey (my heart throb)had it from new but now the carb is playing up. Garage suggest knackered but new is about £400 (gasp). Anybody breaking compatible Y2 with a good bit? Runs okay but requires nifty brake/gas fandango dancing to keep alive. HELP.

There was a time when you could get overhaul kits for a carb but I very much doubt they are still to be had. Try searching the web for one of the big scrappies that will ship if there is nothing local to you.

There is or was a specialists in 'Preston Lancs' where you could get overhaul kits and jets etc. - quite helpful too. Notice the building is for sale so they have re-located or shut down
May be worth trying directory enquires - for Bert Houlding

Ok, we took the car for its mot on monday we sorted out the anti roll rubbers and got a new tyre now we need to bleed the brakes! The problem is the caliper nipple has broken :( We did ring David Coombes in the IOW and he sending us one from a town ace as he thinks this may be the same size as the one for our Lite Ace. If not has anyone got any ideas as this is the only thing we have left to do before we re mot her. The garage we took her to was great but to qualify for the free re-test we need to take her back by Friday any help or advice would be great!!

Bleed nipples should be pretty standard, measured by the thread. Best bet is to remove one and try and get a match at your local factors. In your case you first need to get the old one out. By broken do you mean you have rounded the flats on the nut? Usual trick is to douse in releasing fluid followed by brute force with molegrips. Alternatively, file a couple of diametrically opposed flats on the protruding nipple and hammer on a a smaller fitting spanner.

When you get round to bleeding. Start at the longest pipe run from the master cylinder and move progressively to the shortest and don't forget the load sensing valve near the rear diff. So that should be
n/s rear, o/s rear, LSV, n/s front, o/s front. Repeat until you get rid of all air bubbles and remember to keep the reservoir topped up. Dispose of used fluid.

The Bleed Nipple has actually broken off and the remainder of the thread is inside the caliper. Hubby has tried to get tegh old one out but to no avail.

Found a place that are going to make one for us on the spot so hubby has gone to get one. Will post all the places that we got parts after we re-mot the car to help people out in our area (Poole in Dorset BTW)
