(Home) Aircon filling points, Spacecruiser (tarago) (Sp+)

Hi Folks,

Just a quick note, My aircon on my 1986 tarago failed yesterday, I took it for a look-see and was told that there was no gas , and the system had a leak, fair enough says I fix the leak and re gas the system, after much toin and frowing the "expert" says he cannot find the leak but will regas the system with a dye which will help to locate the leak and I should return in 2 weeks. 10 mins after leaving the place the aircon fails again... (grin)

So not feeling totally confident I decide to seek another opinion, so off I, toddle the new "expert" says he can only find a very minor leak at an o-ring which he replaces, he also tells me that the that the previous 'expert' seems to have been trying to fill the system from the wrong location, rather than using the filling valves under the front of the van... anyway to cut a long story short re regassed the system and fitted new inlet valves for the new gas (a direct swap for the old gas which my system was running) he replaced the o-ring, inserted a dye so any leaks could be dected gave me a written 6 month warranty on the work and charged me AUD$110-00 about 30 Uk pounds.. at the moment the system is running fine I'll let you know how it goes (I run my aircon 90% of the time I use it in winter to prevent steaming up ...)

One other item of note was that due to the aircon not working I tried to use my heated rear window, which I discovered was not working due to a broken wire in the loom inside the rubber boot between the rear of the car and the top of the tailgate..nice trickey one to find, I also had the remove the sliding heater controls in the rear cabin as the air direction lever decided to jam , a nice little task removing all the trim pannels... Oh well, doing a full mechnical service on wednesday, about time the old girl had some TLC to be honest.. (grin)
