(Home) Oil pump casing leak

thanx david for your reply firstly the engine is 2.0 turbo diesel, the crack is in the front plate that houses the oil pump spindle and approx 25mm long, my pump is 16mm thick the crack is at about 45 degrees, approx 2o'clock & finishes at 12 o'clock looking from the inside of the plate. When i tryed to get another plate from the toyota dealers the first one they gave me the pump was only 8mm thick which i pointed out to them & was only half the size of my pump which is 16mm thick so they sent off for another plate which had the 16mm thick pump, which they supplied to me.It appears that my pump is putting to much pressure out & causing the plate to Crack. hoping that you can help me solve this problem also is ther any modifications that can be done. Many thanx

thanx david for your reply, firstly the engine is 2.0 turbo diesel, the crack is in the front plate that houses the oil pump the crack is approx 25mm from the centre of the pump spindle & approx 25mm long. my pump is 16mm thick the crack is at about 45degrees approx 2 o'clock & finishes at 12 o'clock looking from the inside of the plate. When i tryed to get another plate from the toyota dealers, the plate that they gave me the pump was only 8mm thick which was half the size of my pump ,which i pointed out to them which would.nt have suited ,so they sent off for another 1,this time it had that right pump which was 16mm thick,it appears that my pump is putting to much pressure out & causing the plate to crack.Hoping you can help me solve this problem, also is there any modifations that can be done

What engine? Where are the cracks?
Overtightening bolts/ distorted mating surface/ too tight cambelt, a couple of possible reasons...

so you're getting new pump gears and they don't fit the housing correctly, no? AFAIK the same assembly is used in all 2C engines, but I could be wrong.
I know that Toyota offer the gears seperately, but I believe there are aftermarket suppliers of the complete assembly- try your local factors for a QH item or similar.

I had a very similar problem on a rascal engine. New pump failed on day 2 with only 90 miles on the clock since rebuild. It turned out to be a broken hollow locating dowel (1 of 2) that ensures that the pump & crankcase are perfectly aligned. The garage had fitted the new pump with only 1 dowel which was removed from the old pump and omitted to see the broken half dowel in the crankcase. It worked ok until the pump moved very slightly off centre at which point the gears overmeshed and caused the housing to crack. I fitted a replacement pump with home made dowels 20 months ago and all is still well 15000 miles later. HTH - Ray

Amy. This is a strange problem but, are you sure that oil pump pressure is the cause of the cracking? There is a pressure relief valve in the system and this should not allow excess pressure to build up. Has this been checked/tested? The mounting bolts, around the oil pump flange/plate, are of differing lengths. Has a too long bolt been put into a too short tapping and, possibly, caused distortion of the plate or, allowed it to "lift" when the pump is running?
The engine manual, part No RMO25E, details the dismantling and re-assembly of the pump and it's housing. It shows marks on the pump body to aid correct assembly. Is it possible that your pump been wrongly assembled and is mechanical pressure (as against hydraulic pressure)being applied to the casing?
I cannot see that oil pressure would crack the pump housing as any excess pressure would either lift the relief valve or push oil past the shaft seal.
