(Home) Insurance, Liverpool Victoria

Hi all.
Just had my renewal notice from Liverpool Victoria.
£285 fully comp with 65.5% NCB and full business use. Excess for accidental damage and theft is only £100.

I phoned them to query the issue relating to automatics because I have a 4x4 automatic Royal Lounge. I was told that they had changed the rules slightly, but only for new business. Firstly they got a name for insuring imports, and were flooded with enquiries for all sorts of bizarre vehicles, and secondly as of April this year they changed underwriters.

New business
Contrary to their website they will insure imports, but only those that match the exact specification on their list. For example the 4wd Royal Lounge is on their books as an automatic, so no problems there, unless you have a manual 4wd Royal Lounge. (assuming one exists that is).

Existing business
This remains unchanged, if you do have a manual 4wd Royal Lounge and LV already insure it, they will continue cover, and offer to renew the policy near the expiry of the old one.

I did point out the folly in these rules as there appears to be no definable models. The Townace and Liteace can have a multitude of options like manual/automatic transmission, and 2wd/4wd etc. The chap did admit that it may seem confusing (found this out because he wants to buy one himself) but there is a limit to the number of imports that any insurance company will want to cover.

I hope that’s helped clear the muddied waters a bit, and I’m looking forward to my second year of Ace motoring.

Thanks for sharing that Dave. I had been bemused by the various negative reports on L&V as I use them myself and couldn't see what all the fuss was about.

Your bus all sorted and running ok now?

Yes, thank you Ian, it does seem to be fixed although I have noticed a slight poppeling sound coming from somewhere. I suspect its to do with the exhaust. Maybe the manifold or something of that ilk is not quite tight enough. The MOT on Monday should answer that though.

The MPG is improved slightly, but not yet at the 30 MPG I was hoping for given that I have had the injectors reconditioned. I have only managed 27 MPG, but that's on journeys of 10 miles or less, form a cold start, and its still an improvement on the 24/25 MPG I was getting before. The power from a standing point is much improved as well, especially when cold. I really need to take it for a long run to see what I get then.
Thanks for asking
dave Bright.

Curiously, I have just insured an imported Nissan Micra 1.0 litre automatic with LV, no trouble at all. So now I have the two imports with them - Townie and Micra.

Plus, they paid out for the stolen (non-imported) Micra I used to have with them pretty promptly, and at a fair price, I thought.

Miles per gallon
rarely better than 27 (9.something km per litre) from the Townie, I'm afraid.

i have had a devils own job getting insurance on my royal lounge, tesco would only do it if i had a grade 1 alarm system and only told me i needed that after having insured me for a month without one. i then tried l&v to be told they didn't have the royal lounge on the books so couldn't insure it. my search for insurance was made harder as when it was bought into this country it was left on a q plate as the paper work was wrong!!! i now am insured fully comp with adrian flux and highways. cost with 65%no claims £500!!!
