I'm told it is in fact better as veg oil is well er oil, not nasty acrid, etching your paintwork, can't wash it of your hands Diesel. As it burns cleaner I should think the way out would also benefit.
Have a read of veggiepower.com.

Hello Jason
Vegetable oil is good environmentally yes, but not quite as good as Dino Diesel for power and MPG.
Copy this link to your address bar, its about the most informative and concise site that I have found. http://www.veggievan.org/biodiesel/index.php

You can get Bio-diesel, that’s 95% Dino-diesel and 5% veggie oil from some places. This link will tell you where to find your nearest Bio-diesel pump. http://www.biodieselfillingstations.co.uk/outlets.htm In my case its a long way from Bournemouth to Hatfield, so I’m going to have to wait some time before I can try it. If you want to use pure veggie oil though, your probably going have to make it your self.

Hope that helps

The 5% veggie oil biodiesel is the limit that car makers have set. Any more and they will not honour any after sales support agreements/service plans etc..
I used bio-diesel in Germany (don't know what the mix was assume 5%), and managed to get 37 MPG from a normal 30-34.

I was on this site quite a lot. (You can probably see my old postings) I was considering making Biodiesel myself as there are a lot of restaurants and take-aways in my home town. Trouble is, you could always benefit from help from like minded people, but whereas in the US where people were putting their heads together and forming co-operatives, in the UK, it seems to be everyone for themselves. Oh well, I'll just have to wait until Biodiesel is more commercially available I suppose. (I'm reminded every time I start up my Liteace and that cloud of black smoke floats past!)

A friend of ours runs weekend courses on making your own biodiesel. His name is John Nicholson. He was featured on the BBC Drive programme last year. He can be contacted on 01286 830312. He has a website which will give you details of the fuel and the training programme. See link below. He is based near Caernarfon in North Wales.

I seem to have messed up the link in my last message. I will try again. Sorry!
