Question:
>i am trying to find out what is the container, behind the front seat, underneath behind the front wheel. And where is the oil filter, and air filter, I have only had it a few months and the dealer has had more than me, back for repairs. New thermo, leakes being fixed, head skimmed, and a few other things, so now it is up to me. Hope you can inform.<
>Yes i have trouble going uphill, after the head was took off and so called skimmed, all at no expense, may i add. It was still under warranty, but my q,?? is where are the oil filter, air filter. There is a container underneath the drivers side, behind the front wheel, which is empty, and a tube of some description missing, hope you can help.<
Response:
You don't say which engine? - so based on mine (3L)
Container (white) is a resonator - and part of the air intake - you will have noticed they can be a bit noisy - many cars have these but they don't stand out like this, so they are not normally noticed. as unusual (do a search for helmholtz resonator, as I cant explain them!). The tube that runs down the side of it is a drain tube - 'think' its from the evaporator for the rear air con.
On the bottom of the resonator are 2 rubber 'flap valves' which enable air to be expelled but not drawn in
Next to this is the air filter (butterfly nut) and behind this (from underneath) is the oil filter .

Bob - for the sake of around a tenner Dave Coombs at Wight Motors - 01983 405565 may be able to send you an 'engine' manual by return - this may not be for the Hiace but for a vehicle with the same engine in it - will cover some other areas also - worth it I think.

Problem going up hills? - a better description would help - what rpm? do you have turbo? has the fuel filter been replaced? is timing OK - timing belt tension? smoke screw?- How severe is the 'prob' and are there other symptoms? -
Are you aware of this 'prob' due to you pre - and after - head gasket ownership?
Think you max torque will be 2400rpm or thereabouts depending on engine model...
