(Home) Townace electrics - missing fuse

Hi Folks, Well I've gone and taken the plunge. 1994 Townace Royal Lounge, 2-tone Grey, 7-seater, Auto, 2.2TD, 3C-T engine. Based near Glasgow in sunny Scotland. My 1st Major problem is the electrics. The ace has just been MOT'd, and then had a new battery fitted by the small (one man band) garage I bought it from. Back home, I discovered that the side lights, rear lights, brake lights, interior lights and various other electics were not working. Dip/Full beam and indicators/hazards are ok. I had a quick look round and discovered a blue 100A fuse lying suspiciously near the battery compartment. Can anyone shed any light please? Is the "missing" fuse the cause of the lights etc. not working? If so - where does it go?
Any help greatly appreciated! BRILLIANT site by the way.

If it's the same as the earlier model, try looking under the inner inspection panel at the rear of the driver's seat.

Thanks Ian, I've now had a good look in that inspection panel, and there are indeed a row of larger fuses that I didn't know about. Unfortunately it looks like they are all in place and working, so I'm none the wiser! The electrics which are not working are
tail / stop / side lights, all interior lights, fog lamps, the clock, speedo and heater fan. The main & dipped beam headlights work ok, as do turn signal (indicators), horn, hazards, aircon (no fan), reversing lights & warning beep, odometer (mileometer) and trip meter. Does anyone know of any common link between all the inoperative stuff? Thanks again, G.

I forgot to add that the electric mirrors and retract button are also inoperative. Ta, G

In which case your 100A fuse may be a red herring. I forget which fuse does what but check the fuse panel in the passenger footwell. The reverse of the cover should say which fuse covers what. Also see if any of the breakers above it need to be reset. This is done by inserting a pin/paperclip into the hole.

Thanks Ian, I've actually checked the fuse panel, and all seems fine (except the 7.5A radio fuse - and I don't have a radio fitted yet!), The circuit breakers look like silver-coloured cylinders?, but there doesn't appear to be a reset hole on them. I even tried swapping these round to see if the fault moved to other circuits, but it stayed the same, so I don't think the circuit breaker is to blame. I have looked at a wiring diagram I found in ace answers and saw a fusible link, on a wire from the battery which looks like it feeds power to the circuits in question, so I traced the wires back from the battery, and did find what looks like a chunky black in-line fuse holder, about 6-8 inches from the battery +, but it's quite awkward to get at, and i'm not sure how to open it! (I don't think it twists open as there's a raised section in which one half seems to slot inside the other) I'll maybe have another go at this again tonight. Thanks again, G.

Quick update
I've now discovered that the charging circuit for the battery is also not working! (New battery too flat to start Townie after one week) I've managed to open, what I thought was a fuse holder near the battery, but it just turned out to be a cable joint thing. All fuses in the fuse box are definitely ok. I have now also managed to get myself a handbook, and the fuse box looks the same as the "Mid-Nineties Townace" one. From the diagram, it looks like there should be 5 circuit breakers above the fuses, but I only have 4, and where the centre one should be, there is a wire link instead? As mentioned previously, the circuit breakers look like little silvery coloured cylinders, but dont have holes in them for resetting! Any advice would be much appreciated as I've just about exhausted my options, without calling in the dreaded auto-electrician!

Sorry for butting...
Have a look at the picture

This should be what you should have, version and year may change this a little.
I'll butt out now - no comments about my butt thankyou Ian.

If they are round and don't have a hole in the top, they're probably relays- four terminals, no?
The breakers have a flat top and are roughly oval in shape, with the little hole. Two terminals...

Sorry for the delay folks, I've not been keeping very well - awww!
This electrical problem has turned out to be a "link-plate" on the back of the fuse box, in the inspection panel, behind the drivers seat. Someone had very kindly removed one of these, presumeably to cure some other minor electrical problem - but in so doing had completely disabled several other circuits. My garage has since had a very deep and meaningful discussion with their MOT centre colleagues who mysteriously managed to pass the vehicle without these circuits working. I am currently going over the Townie with a fine toothcomb in case they've "missed" anything else. Many thanks to everyone who contributed!
