(Home) Antifreeze

Whilst changing my water pump on my Townace 2wd auto I went to my local garage to borrow a puller to remove the Fuel pump pulley, whilst talking he mentioned that Toyota should only be filled with the Toyota only type of anti freeze that it is about £13 a litre. Has anyone come across this?

Hello Arshad.
All main dealers have there own brand of coolant. They have chemists that produce the right blend of chemicals to fully protect the cooling system from corrosion as well as freezing. Most of the time coolant will start to turn acidic after two years, then it eats the cooling system from the inside.

£13 per litre is way too much. I was quoted £37.50 for 11 litres from my local Toyota main dealer. Its also important to know that the Toyota coolant is designed to be used neat, not mixed with water.
Checkout the archives at http://mpvi.net/ia/indexarc.htm look under...cooling and heating....and select the coolant post
Hope that helps

the antifreeze your dealer was talking about is the toyota branded coolant/antifreeze with corrosion inhibiters etc, the price is actually £13:00 for 5 litres not a litre.
