Can anybody give any advice on removing an autogearbox for a 2.0T Diesel? I know it has a torque converter but not sure it is connected.

I'm pretty sure it's the same as taking out a manual with the exeption on the torque converter. Usually you leave it in place as it's internal seals and seals to the crankshaft are easily damaged when removed. You should find that it is bolted to the flywheel. Before you remove the bolts securing it to the flywheel support the torque converter somehow (bolt a make-shift bracket on or wire it up etc, but make sure it is something that will hold it)then remove the flywheel bolts. Make sure you support the gearbox (don't let it 'hang') and withdraw it as gently and level as possible. The same goes for replacement, ease it in gently. If it's been out for a while make sure there is oil or vasaline/petroleum jelly on the seals, crank and gearbox shaft to help it slide in without damaging the seals.......Wassup with it anyway?

Thanks for the reply. I managed to remove the gear box last week by making up 4 long threaded pegs and sliding it out carefully leaving the torque converter attached to the flywheel. It would of been easier to remove the gearbox and torque converter as one. This would of protected the seal/seals?. The torque converter is bolted from the front of the flywheel(six bolts I think) These can be taken out by turning the engine untill the bolt head is in line with little inspection cover at bottom front of the bell housing. Repeat this until all bolts are removed. The converter is located on the end of the crankshaft by a spigot. Just make sure that the converter moves with the gearbox or give it a tap to free the spigot.
The gearbox is fine (or was!)I had a cranshaft pulley failure in deepest France and this has damaged the crankshaft. Fortunately I managed to get hold of and engine minus the cylinder head so my engine is now in
kit form.
