can somone tell me why the lights & dash come on when brake pedal pressed down ( ing off) thanks

have you checked brake light bulbs are correct i e twin contact if theyhave been relaced with single contact they will short out across terminals when brake pedel depressed making sidelights/dashlights come on has anyone worked on the vehicle recently?
