(Home) How to change cam belt on Toyota Estima

I have been asked my a friend (no internet access) who needs information on how to change the cam belt on his Toyota Estima.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Graham.

Have you tried the Lucida site (should be a link from one of the sister sites)? We answer some of the generic Lucida/Estima/Emina queries on this site but something as specific as a Timing Belt would be better addressed by someone with more specific knowledge. The majority of people accessing this site are mainly Townie/HIACE/SpaceCruiser owners.

Hi Graham

I've done the cambelt on my Townie Diesel and my Estima diesel; the job is very similar, the timing marks are the same, I'm pretty sure even the belt is the same. The only real difference lies in the position of the engine, i.e. it's horizontally mounted, also you have to unbolt the ancilliary driveshaft from the from of the crank pulley to get the pulley off (it can be pushed aside, but it's tight). On the plus side you dont have any anciliary drivebelts to pull off (they're all under the bonnet in the front), and you don't have to undo the gearchange linkage, handbrake linkage & fuel cap release cable like you do on the Townie. I had to change the crank & oil pump seals on mine as they were leaking (right pain in the a**e but can be done - check them when the belt is off). In common with the Townie you have to remove the driver's seat and floorpan to gain access. If you have any specific questions when doing the job post them here I'll answer if I can. Good Luck.

The previous information will be useful to me when it will come to replacing the timing belt on my Emina.
As for the Lucida site link, I have tried several times in the past to get on this site, but all I got was a message saying something about bandwidth time (???), so, as I also own a Liteace, I prefer to stick with this one. Ithankyou!

I am wandering if you have cylinder head tension settings & valve clearances for a 3CT engine as I cannot find any setting information. Your help would be very much appresiated.

I,m thinking of buying a '92 - '95 estima or lucida and, as I don't know anyone who has one, was wondering if anyone has any general tips or advice on owning/running these vehicles, or wether it's worth paying extra for a previa????

Any help much appreciated. Daryl
