(Home) 2ct engine siesed up

Hi All
I need some serious help, over the last few weeks my dear townace developed what i can only describe as a "knock" which has been getting progressivly louder'until tonight when i parked it sounded like the engine was being hit with a hammer on tickover and when i applied a few revs i could hear a irregular metallic rumbling sound as well as the knocking, then the engine stopped with the sound of metal being thrown
about and now will not turn. The guy who does most of my car maintainance, recons ive described the classic
collapsed crankshaft bearing,is he right?,any insights gratefully recieved,
Regards Laurence

'fraid to say that it sound pretty terminal whatever it is. The clue's in the question really, you say that you have had a 'knock' over the last few weeks, which has been getting worse. I would suggest that you should have done something about it then, the engine might have been salvageable then, with perhaps just some replacement parts, such as big end & main bearings needed. Now it sounds as though you could even need a new crankshaft as well. If it has seized the main or big end bearings, then it is most likely to have scored the crank. Silly question, is there any oil in the engine? these engines have a virtually bullet proof bottom end, only the top end is weak, so I'm surprised it has gone unless neglected. Only a strip down of the bottom end will reveal the true extent of the damage I'm afraid. Might be better to look into price of a 2CT lump from somewhere like BBC Spares.

Sorry it's not better news, HTH,
Regards Rob.

Just as an afterthought, check the bottom pulley on the crankshaft, it might have fallen off & could cause some of what you describe, although I would expect the engine to turn still, worth a look!
