Paul. It's difficult to offer advice without a bit more information. Is the gearbox changing through it's range of gears? Do you detect that the autobox is changing through the gears on a level road, ie, without the extra load imposed by a steep hill? Is the rev counter showing normal (for a particular gear}, when on a level road or, is the engine racing in one, or all, of the gears, especially when negotiating a hill? Does switching overdrive off, ie, no top gear, allow the vehicle to climb hills normally? Do check the functions of the autobox, in normal use and, again on a gradient and, especially, the operation of the "kick down" feature for selecting a lower gear.

Hello Paul.
It sounds like your transmission is not in good shape I'm afraid.
Depending on the severity, Hills tend to stretch the Townace at the best of times. Its a heavy under powered vehicle, so when it reaches a hill the extra strain can cause a number of problems. In this case it could be the clutches slipping. From your description, It sounds like your ATF is very new, and my guess is you have recently acquired the Townace? If that's correct then the previous owner may have changed the ATF to disguise the problem. In some cases when the ATF is very thick and burnt, if its really bad, then the advice is not to change it.
Your best bet would be to find an auto transmission specialist near you that can check it.
Hope that helps

Is the fuel filter OK? - if blocked etc. it would leave you with serious lack of power

Townace 1985 blowing fuses when put into overdrive on automatic box, can anyone help.

Which fuses?
There isn't much in that circuit- switch, controller, solenoid. I'd go for the solenoid or it's wiring, although it could be the wiring at the console- has the floor been up recently, could a wire be trapped?
