I have a 1989 Townace Royal Lounge efi, 2.00 litre petrol. The mechanic who has been working on it is ill and unable to continue - and has left us with a problem.
He says the engine sensor which tells the ecu the engine state (hot/cold) is faulty (this is not the temp guage sensor), so the van is hard to start.
However I do not have enough information to order a replacement part. Does anyone have any info on this please?
We are based near Canterbury in Kent and are looking for a mechanic or garage that has Toyota experience - any recommendations?

The sensor on the 3y and 4y US engines is on the rad cap/top hose housing.

Mechanic informs me after head renewal that the temperature sender has failed ,guage tested & ok.It sits in the head apparently . Bus is 2wd townace auto 89. 2 usual suppliers have nothing listed. the insulator at the top is RED this apparently means something.Anyone know what I want & where to get it?

diesel townies use the same gauge sender as just about every other Toyota of the era.
Lucas ref SNJ401
Now if he's talking about the a/c or fan control senders on the outlet neck, they're dealer only...

Hi
I spoke to Dave Mason, there is a link to his email address on the Ace Archive Board, go to the explorer tree, top folder in that tree and the page it opens has Dave's addy as a link.
I am going to get one for my Hiace as soon as I actually get the poxy thing on the road.
Might write a book with all that has gone wrong for me.
