(Home) Replacement head

I have removed the head from my bus & found it to be cracked on No. 3 cylinder with 3 cracks just on this. I am amazed that the vehicle ran so well even with this amount of damage, I have found a company who have supplied engine parts to my local garage & I have ordered a head from them. The company is Japanese Parts of Rainham, Essex Tel:01708557555 Price is £293 inc Vat & del. with a 90 day warranty.

Arshad, most of the heads on our vans will have the beginnings of hairline cracks near the valves, its not until they reach the other side or the water gallery (which is close) that we get to hear and see it in the form of steam and water gushing from the header tank. Ignorance is bliss sometimes

Recieved the "new Head" from Japanese parts of Rainham, very clean with no cracks even between the valves head was steam cleaned & crack tested but found to have a siezed belt tension pully probably caused by the steam cleaning. swapped this over & got a complete head set for £65. Should all go back together tommorow. Will let everyone know how it all goes, P.S. fingers crossed.

I have got my bus back on the road after replacing the head & gaskets, everything seems fine but I have a tapping sound coming from the cam area. I think the cam is worn more than the one in my old head. the mechanic who's garage I used said that it could be the shims need repalcing, but I noticed that the lobes on the cam were more worn than on the original one. Any ideas I have to replace a piece of rubber pipe on the turbo inlet as there was a split so most of the top pipes will have to come off so I can do this job in one go.

Hi Arshad.
Your not going to like this I’m afraid. The shims are under the valve lifters, and to get to them the cam shaft has to come out. Have you got the old camshaft? Might be worth changing it with the original shims and lifters.
Sorry thts not beter news

I have got the original head with cam & shims etc. I will be looking at changing these items over the next few days.
