(Home) Hiace Super custom

I am wanting to buy a 1992 (Nov)Hi ace super custom 2.7 diesel auto that I have seen and wondered if any one could answer two questions for me. When changing cam belt is there any diferent to changing on the 2.4 model and as it is 4 wheel drive does any one know how to use. Have seen Ace Answers for master ace, etc, but am a bit confused. Also is Super Custom top of the range if not what is.

There are a couple of 4X4 options.
Some have 2D, 4High, and 4Low, all on the lever, some (most) have a 4X4 select button on the dash, and a lever for high and low range.

The process is the same for all - it is a part time system - for slippery or off-road use only, never for high grip such as dry road, and rain is not normally slippery enough.
Lock the front hubs (centre of the front wheels, as marked), then select 4X4 (button) or 4H (lever).
This can be done while moving. Now in 4X4.

You must come to a full stop and select neutral before moving the lever to 4Low. That is now low range 4X4 - for extremely slippery places.

Back to high range is the reverse, at full stop.
Back to 2WD is also the reverse, push the button again, or move the lever to 2H. Again on the move is OK.
Then stop and unlock the hubs.

Super Custom is not necessarily top of the range - it depends on what options were chosen when new!

Dave.

Top of range (if there is such a thing) is probably the Ltd Edition - but Dave is right - its a matter of options fitted - 4wd you can forget about (not for ordinary road use) as its only of value if you get stuck (in uk anyway)- the 4 wd vehicle sits about 4 inches higher than 2wd though
I believe the 2779cc is the strongest (all iron) but the 3ltr turbo better for quicker progress

Hi
I was led to believe the top of the range is
Super Custom Limited.
Mine is the 3.0 DTS Super Custom Limited, 1994 on an M plate, mine is a 2WD auto with full overdrive, I also have a digital dash display.
As for options mine does not have SAT nav so there must be even higher options.
Rgds
Simon

PS I have yet to drive mine in anger due to all sorts of probs since importing it, but am nervous about owning it due to all the reports of problems with overheating, I must not mine only has 57thousand kilometres on it so I hope if I don't keep it for too long might miss out on the nightmare.
