(Home) Fuel hose - deisel v petrol

Question is... Is different hose required depending on whether its deisel or petrol running through it?
One supplier said yes, as deisel eats petrol hose and vica versa - however the hose suplied by them is to DIN 73379 standard..... the same as the loads of bits of petrol hose I have lying about.
If anyone knows please advise as I am renewing at the pump end of the filter, and don't want to end up clogging the pump and injectors with desolved rubber -
Or am I showing my ignorance of all things deisel again?!....

Well, a quick net search (should have done this 1st) suggests that the DIN number is fine for both fuels so maybe someones made a monkey out of me.... - however maybe half a dozen suppliers could not answer this question, so at least I got some definative info from the jest!

Interchangeable. The only caveat is if you intend to run bioD, some types of rubber ain't compatible...

As David says, it's interchangeable, on standard diesels & petrols, only change would be for modern diesels, where the pipes & hoses have to be able to cope with in excess of 2100BAR (30+ Thousand PSI) but that doesn't include the Townie.

Rob, that would be an injector pipe you refer to. The pre pump delivery system is low pressure (OK on an HDI it could be up to 60psi, but that's small change...)

Hi David,
I'm rather hoping to switch to Bio-Diesel if it ever becomes available near Bournemouth, so I am wondering if the rubber is affected by 100% Bio-Diesel, or 95/5 Dino-Bio-Diesel, or both?

Dunno Dave. Try asking the same question on one of the BioD forums. I seem to recall that earlier VWs need hoses changed but most later cars should be OK

Thanks guys, that was interesting
Dave, a short bio diesel link here which you may find interesting

One of the suppliers I spoke with sold flexible stainless which was over braided - don't know how it would stand up to the vibrations of a diesel engine though, + adaptors would be needed to mate up etc.

Thank you Chris, that's most helpful.
It looks like B5 which is 95/5 Dino-Bio-Diesel should be ok, but anything greater needs modifications, probably not just fuel lines.
