(Home) Insurance

Hi,
If any of you are looking for cheap insurance, try Liverpool Victoria.
They have given me a quote, of £341.00 fully comp, with windscreen cover.
Quite cheap I think! as I only have, one years no claims.

Hi,
I totally agree I have been with RL&V for three years no one as yet has got near their quote and just recently I had the misfortune to meet a nice young lady one morning when she had a spot of bother controlling a skid did some damage to my lovely bus but RL&V sorted it all very quickly using my local bodyshop and at no cost or loss of bonus to me.
Good price and service you bet

I would also be very grateful for the number for rl&v, i have spent the whole day trying to find someone to insure my townace. No one is interested either because its an import or that it hasn't got an immobiliser fitted. Regards Sarah

- (#11986) Sarah, 24 Nov 03 19:35

sarah , sorry to hear about your ins. hassles .
we are with lv but our wagon was insured by the previous owner with tesco although i think they also wanted an imobiliser fitted ? (after all they are such a sought after vehicle! ) http://www.liverpoolvictoria.co.uk/ 0800 514 514 . lines open 8am to 8pm mon-fri & 8am to 4pm sat. good luck

- (#11987) Sarah, 24 Nov 03 21:20

Hi all, Tesco don't need an immobiliser either.
LV have become a bit picky when insuring Townaces, if it doesn’t exactly match the spec they have, they wont insure it. For example, they currently insure my 4x4 Automatic Townace Royal Lounge for £285 fully comp + business use, but they wont insure my 4x4 Automatic Masterace Surf Custom Saloon, because they have the Masterace down as manual. Tesco on the other hand are less picky, and will insure the Masterace for £340 Ok that’s £55 more expensive than LV, but then £340 fully comp + full business use is still a very good price for any vehicle, never mind a grey import.

- (#11988) dave Bright, 25 Nov 03 3:35

Hi all, i had problems with LV, they would not insure me as they id not have an auto diesel Townace SuperExtra on their books. Tesco insured it for me and my wife to drive for £265. I have to fit an immbolisier before they will cover it for theft but other than that it is fully comp.

- (#11989) Jim Paul, 25 Nov 03 3:52

Thankyou for your posts, after reading about lv i thought i would give them a ring. I am very pleased to say that my townace was covered by them as of today for a very cheap some of £264 fully comp for me and my husband. thanks again

- (#11990) sarah, 25 Nov 03 20:20

I've always thought one has to be slightly crazy to run one of these vehicles (as people often tell me) and put up with all their idiosyncrasies. Running two must be certifiable!

- (#11991) Ian Dunse, 26 Nov 03 3:55

Hi Sarah,
I am very glad you got your insurance sorted out,my husband has been with lv for years, never had any problems with them.
They were the only insurance company that would insure my Townace.

- (#11992) Caroline, 26 Nov 03 4:59

Hi Ian.
I'm not actually running two yet, or really planning on it. I recently saw a Masterace for sale with an engine fault, that may result in it needing a new engine. It was advertised so cheap I couldn't ignore it, so I bought it. Just before I did though, I thought I had better check the insurance because I know that LV won't insure some of the range.
My original plan was to repair the fault, overhaul the cooling system, and sell it on. Now I have it, I have to say that although the Townace is in better general condition, I actually prefer the look of the Masterace. It has a different light configuration on the front, with the fog lights and indicators on the bumper, and the best alloy wheels I've seen on a 4X4. So my new plan is to fix the faults, overhaul the cooling system, then keep the Masterace, and sell the Townace.

Now I just need some time, and good weather to get it up and running.

Yep definitely certifiable :-)

Have fun!

Ian

Just been on the phone to L&V - since April they can only cover exact matches to the specifications in their list (The list is on this archive somewhere).
Hence they cant insure my Royal Lounge as it is an auto and they only list a manual....

- (#6892) wolff, 1 Dec 03 10:13

That Doesn't sound right. I have an automatic Royal lounge, and LV currently insure it! They assured me a few months ago that they do have the RL as an automatic on the list, so there shouldn't be a problem for existing, or new business.

- (#6892) dave, barking mad two ace owner, Bright, 1 Dec 03 10:38

hi caroline i phoned L/V for my estima emina and they will not cover me as it is auto but thank's anyway regards ian .....

- (#6892) ian , 1 Dec 03 12:47

Brand new Accelerator Cable for townace royal Lounge still in unbroken wrapping from Toyota with receipt £69 will take £45. Southend on Sea Essex

- (#6892) Edward, 7 Jan 04 13:20

Hi Guys,

I agree 100% L&V are one of the cheapist i have come across,i have been with them for the last 2 years i pay £315 fully com with all the extras with it

- (#6892) dennis, 7 Jan 04 14:30

The funny thing with this Tesco/L&V thing is that Tesco outsource all their car insurace business through L&V anyway. Tesco are just a customer service front end. So god knows why tesco will insure things that L&V won't!

- (#6892) Carl, 12 Jan 04 08:48

The main difference is who underwrites the Insurance. L&V have been around for years and will have many underwriters for their own business. If a new kid on the insurance block like Tesco want to break into the insurance market, the easiest way to do it is through someone like L&V, which will involve different underwriters. Who knows, maybe Tesco are the underwriters as well. That way they could break into the insurance market, without the horrendous set up costs. Still having spent millions on advertising their new insurance package, they will not want to turn many people away. I guess eventually Tesco's promotion will end, and they will analyse the new business that they have acquired. No doubt if they find that the number of imports is disproportionate to the remaining business, they too will become a lot more choosey about who and what they will insure.

- (#6892) dave Bright, 12 Jan 04 11:01

no1 seems 2 hav mentioned footman james who we r with as far as i remember they beat lv who wouldnt insure my liteace as its a auto n not manuel, cheap as well!

- (#6892) jane, 11 Feb 04 17:04

Jane I agree, LV refused to insure our Townie on the grounds it wasnt on their 'list'. Rang FJ up, they were £110 cheaper than Direct Line (our existing insurers) and offered a much better package (eg £100 excess instead of £350!). We now pay £204 FC, PNCD, breakdown cover, named driver, legal exp and no immob req'd.Excellent value.
