(Home) Aircon. And mpg

I have recently acquired a liteace MPV, I love it but it's only returning 30.5 MPG (2.0 turbo Diesel)Even on a run, best I've had is 31 mpg.
The A/C seems to work, but doesn't seem to affect the engine rev's. at all. The same, incidentally with the button that should raise the revs. for towing.
I've had it fully serviced and the cambelt changed, and though the garage thought it 'odd' that the a/c didn't affect the revs, they weren't more forthcoming.
Is this normal MPG? Do you think the A/c could be stuck on? how can I check this? I love the car but can't run it at this mpg.
Thanks to anyone who can help. Jim.

If you're talking about the revs at idle then, on typical Townaces anyway, (a) when the aircon starts there is a vacuum-operated servo that increases the engine power to maintain the revs (b) the "idle-up" button operates the same servo, though through a separate solenoid-operated vacuum valve, but only when the heater blower is on - it's intended for getting a bit more warmth if you need it.

Hello Jim
Depending on its year and age, there maybe some things you can do to improve the mileage, but 30 MPG is good believe it or not.

If it's any consolation running with aircon on mine doesn't effect the mpg much either and yes 30mpg aint bad.

Jim,
"Do you think the A/c could be stuck on? how can I
check this? "
The extra power and, extra fuel, needed to run
the A/C compressor, usually affects overall fuel consumption but, in my experience, this is only marginal. You can check whether the compressor is running by looking at the magnetic clutch on the drive pulley assembly. Switching the A/C button, on the dashboard, will show the clutch engaging or disengaging
