Help, my 2l Turbo diesel Townace has developed an intermittent rattle. Some days it's quite a loud rattle at low revvs, both when cold and warmed up. Other days, the rattle does not occur at all. Could this be the type of oil? Could it be cambelt tensioner? Tappets?
Any suggestions welcome

With the engine off, give a really good heave ho on the front crankshaft pulley, they have been known to come loose & the first sign is usually a rattle, if left to slap around it will move out of the woodruff keyway & destroy the crank. If that is tight, it could be a noisey injector or an airlock in the fuel system, amongst a host of other things. A stethescope is a good tool to find where a noise is coming from!!!
