Maybe a silly question but we have bought a townace royal lounge and have been using it for holidays etc. We love it. I am wodering if anybody has ever fitted an awning to give us more flexibility when camping.

Hi Judy,
Never used an awning on our Townace but have used them on a campervan, really useful, the only drawback is stowing them when they are wet and then having to hang them up on arriving home to dry out otherwise they will suffer from mildew and go to smell horribly.
You can obtain exactly what you want from:-
CARANEX,Cuan,Seil,Argyll. PA34 4RB Tel:- 01852 300258
or on www.caranex.co.uk
Carry on camping, it's a great hobby
Regards
Wyn

No expert on awnings but used one on a campervan I used to own. Free standing would be ok but you couldn't really fit one that threads onto the roof gutter for two reasons 1) the rail doesn't go right around to the back and 2) it isn't very strong being only a soft plastic/aluminium type material. I managed to crack mine after catching it with a sponge when washing!

I have used standalone awnings on both a vw and a hi-ace.
ian is right the plactic runner bit is weak, i have resorted to using those plastic spring loaded gripper things that you can get in diy stores along with an ali pole to keep the awning attached. the only issue i have had is getting a good seal between the van and awning to prevent water ingress - but with trial and error i have mastered that one..
I now use a harrison standalone awning with two bed room attachments - and its perfect for 2 teenage children for about two weeks
