(Home) Speedometer convertion

Still running my Royal Lounge without any real problems. My son has just given me a K/m to Miles converter which is fitted into the speedometer cable, it is a geared gizmo. Wondered if any one else has fitted one and any snags to look out for.
It came off a Yamaha motor cycle but looks like usual speedo connections either end etc.

I might be wrong, but isn't the thread on the bike cables about half the size of that on the townie?

Not sure about the size difference as I have'nt looked under the Beast yet.
Will let everyone know, when I have done so, when the rain stops that is !

I've heard of these. Two potential snags.
They put extra strain on the speedo cable, so ensure they run very freely and anticipate early speedo cable failure.
They modify the odometer as well as the speedometer, so the odometer has to be interpreted by saying something like, "well it reads 85,000 and that means 75,000km plus 10,000 miles!".

Thanks for comment to the two Daves.
Had a look re fitting the converter. Found out it was "too small enough!" Thanks for comments and interest. Back to fitting a mask on speedo which I can read at night! First one tried was fine for daylight hours.Need to make next one on transparency so light shows through !

roy. you might like to know that there are replacement "masks" commercially available and they are an excellent product. there is a standard one and, also, one incorporating the "tems" logo. they are made by euro-spec 2000 of camberley, surrey. when i bought mine, eighteen months ago, they only cost 11gbp each. they fit perfectly, illuminate at night, and are easy to fit. euro-spec are on 01276 670628

I have a gearing convertor thing mounted 'in-line' on the speedo cable where it enters the gearbox on the hiace....so they are available.... for a price...
