(Home) Choke comes off and Model F cuts out (Spa)

i have a 1986 model f spacecruiser 3Y CARB.
I seem to have a problem, in cold weather, there seems to be a phase, where the choke comes off the engine cuts out. once it has warmed up properly it runs fine, also when the choke is in it runs fine?
any ideas??
also if clive is out there i got the parts cd etc working after all, but can't seem to get drawings up for all sections?

"when the choke is in it runs fine"

It's a manual choke then? Maybe the engine isn't quite warmed up enough. If a manual choke, leave it out longer, gradually pushing home the button in stages.

If automatic then it's closing off too quickly, assuming that everything else is ok - plugs, air filter, timing, tickover etc. The choke valve should be fully closed when atmospheric temperature reaches 15 degC. It is adjustable by the scale on the coil housing. I've sent you a diagram.

If its auto choke then pull any vacuum hoses going to it - check for hose splits and look to see if there are any blockages to the auto choke. On some autochokes the line is restricted (sometimes via insert)to a pin hole. Fine, but sometimes this small hole blocks up with carbon and needs clearing.
I had your symptom on a vw, and the above resolved it.
