The light will not come on when I open the rear door of my 1989 Masterace.The bulb is ok as it switches on manually.So I guess the door switch is stuck,trouble is I can't see it anywhere around the door fraim.Is it some strange contraption inside the door itself?

If you mean the tailgate, the contacts are within the door catch. Remove & then split the assembly open (grind the rivits out). You will see the thin contact strips. I made new ones out of thin brass shim. Total job took about 3 hours.

Part of the rear door lock, remove the lock and see if the lead has come off, there are two leads one for door open dash light. I had the opposite in that the light would not go off on my Spacecruiser, disconnnected and it went off, still worked ok from the side door.
